The Removable Rights

The following six rights are personal and can only be removed (and not delegated to another) from the ward:

1. The right to marry
2. The right to vote
3. The right to personally apply for government benefits
4. The right to have a driver’s license
5. The right to travel
6. The right to seek and retain employment

The next list of rights can be removed from the ward and then delegated to the guardian:

• The right to contract
• The right to sue and/or defend lawsuits
• The right to apply for governmental benefits
• The right to manage property or to make any gift or disposition of property
• The right to determine residence
• The right to consent to medical treatment
• The right to make decisions about social environment or other aspects of life
